Founded by Abraham Issa, the company’s first property, Tower Isle was built in Ocho Rios in 1949. [1] The property was the first resort built on Jamaica’s undeveloped north coast. Issa came from a prominent Arab family who had arrived to Jamaica from Jerusalem in 1893.
Gordon “Butch” Stewart (1941-2021) was the businessperson who founded and owned Beaches Resorts. Adam Stewart (1981-), the son of Gordon “Butch” Stewart, is the Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International (SRI).
It was built by the Government of Jamaica at a cost of $10 million. [2] It occupies 22 acres (89,000 m 2 ) at the northern end of Negril beach and has 280 rooms in two-story buildings. A 50% interest in the hotel was bought by the SuperClubs in 1989, [ 3 ] a resort company owned by John Issa & his family, for $12.25 million. [ 4 ]
