Glendale Union High School District No. 205 is a school district headquartered in Glendale, Arizona, United States. The union high school district operates nine comprehensive high schools and serves most of Glendale and a portion of Phoenix. It is the second largest high school-only district preceded by Phoenix Union.
In 1987, the district had eight Armenian-speaking teachers and teaching aides, and that year had hired five additional Armenian-speaking teachers and teacher aides. [15] As of 1990, the largest immigrant group speaking an ethnic home language in the GUSD was the Armenians. [16] By 2004, over 33% of the Glendale district students were Armenian.
The National Substitute Teachers Alliance estimated the national average pay for a substitute teacher in the United States in 2015 as $105 per day with a range of $20 (although $3.08 per hour would be below minimum wage in any state) to $190, although most districts pay well below $100 per day.
Glendale High School was founded as Glendale Union High School in 1901 by the residents of the villages of Glendale, La Crescenta, Burbank, Eagle Rock, Ivanhoe, Tropico and West Glendale. The first classes were held at the Glendale Hotel. The first principal was Mr. Llewellyn Evans and the school had two teachers and 29 students.
