The first intercollegiate lacrosse game in the United States was played on November 22, 1877 between New York University and Manhattan College. On May 7, 1924, NYU overwhelmed and shutout Harvard at Soldier's Field by a score of 7-0. Men's lacrosse at NYU was discontinued sometime after 1931 but was revived nearly 60 years later in 1990.
He also was a trustee of NYU. [4] Miller was appointed as the first official Bronx Borough Historian in 1944, and continued that appointment until 1953. [14] [15] [16] He died on January 21, 1956, and is interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx, New York City. [17] US Lacrosse inducted him into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1957. [4]

Manhattan's lacrosse program became Division I in 1996 playing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). They have qualified for the MAAC tournament 7 times (2000, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2008–2010).
