The Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) is the main military intelligence outfit, responsible for intelligence gathering for all military purposes. [3] The DGFI also includes subdivisions specifically serving the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force, but the agency itself is distinct and unified for all military intelligence functions.
Upon its creation, the role of DFI was strictly limited to sharing intelligence it gathered with the armed forces. The nascent DFI achieved very little and was overshadowed by National Security Intelligence (NSI), Bangladesh's principal intelligence agency. The National Security Intelligence [a], commonly known as the NSI, is the principal civilian intelligence agency of Bangladesh. The NSI's headquarters is in Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The NSI is the leading body of the Government of Bangladesh in the field of internal security, counter terrorism, counter intelligence and foreign intelligence.
On 16 February 2016 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was formed with 600 personnel. [4] In March 2017 it carried out a raid in Sitakunda, Chittagong leading to the death of two militants. [5] It provided support to Operation Twilight by 1st Para-Commando Battalion of Bangladesh Army on 25 March 2017. [6]
On 12 December 2018 this division was awarded with Digital Bangladesh Award 2018. [35] On Police Week 2019 DC Md Alimuzzaman was awarded with Bangladesh Police Medal (service) and ADC A F M Al Kibria, ADC Sayed Nasirullah & Ishtiaque Ahmed were awarded with President Police Medal (service). [36]
