The tournament ran from 2 September until 13 September. It was the 90th staging of the US Open, and the fourth Grand Slam tennis event of 1970. It was the first Grand Slam tournament in which the tiebreak was used to decide the set at a 6–6 score. The 1970 US Open was the first tournament to introduce a final set tie-break in a Grand Slam.
Ken Rosewall defeated Tony Roche in the final, 2–6, 6–4, 7–6 (5–2), 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1970 US Open. [1] It was his second US Open singles title and seventh Grand Slam tournament singles title overall. Rod Laver was the defending champion, but lost in the fourth round to Dennis Ralston.
Defending champion Margaret Court defeated Rosie Casals in the final, 6–2, 2–6, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1970 US Open. With the win, Court completed the Grand Slam, becoming the first woman in the Open Era to do so.
