Today, the only thing that remains of Fort Shannon is its Officer's Quarters building, which now serves as the Putnam Historic Museum and home of the Putnam County Historical Society. This building is the only known surviving military structure built by U.S. Army troops or militiamen during the Second Seminole War.
The Putnam County Courthouse, in Hennepin, was built in 1837, and is the oldest county courthouse in Illinois still serving its original purpose. [4] Abraham Lincoln visited the courthouse, including when he campaigned for a Congressional seat in September 1845. The Putnam County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Many efforts have been made over the years to appropriately restore the Bronson–Mulholland house to its original splendor. While the City of Palatka owns the structure and the surrounding land, the Putnam County Historical Society in partnership maintains all of the interior furnishings.

As an influential member of the Putnam County Historical Society, Dorothy Giles had a home on Pauling Avenue in Cold Spring and was active in community affairs. [3] In 1924 her book Adventures in Brotberhood was published. [8] Giles wrote two travel books: The Road Through Spain (1929) [9] and The Road Through Czechoslovakia (1930). [10]
