Mount Eyak is currently serviced by a single chairlift (as well as the rope tow). The chairlift was purchased from Sun Valley, Idaho, and transported by train to Seattle, then by ferry to Cordova. The Sheridan Ski Club painted the towers and repaired the chairs before the U.S. Army used its helicopters to put the towers in place in 1974. [2]

The ski area sits on the east side of Elk Mountain. There is a tow rope and one 2 person lift at the area. The bottom of the lift sits at 4990 feet above sea level, the top reaches 5850 feet, from top to bottom the ski area is 860 vertical feet. [4] There are 24 runs that are unrated.
People have been using the north-facing slopes of the area for winter recreation since the early 1930s. In the 1940s, the Las Vegas Ski Club operated a short rope tow and a warming hut. Lee Canyon Ski Area was created in 1964, when the Forest Service issued a Special Use Permit in order to provide winter recreation options in Southern Nevada.
