The "cow tools" cartoon "Cow tools" is a cartoon from The Far Side by American cartoonist Gary Larson, published in October 1982. It depicts a cow standing behind a table of bizarre, misshapen implements with the caption "Cow tools". The cartoon confused many readers, who wrote or phoned in seeking an explanation of the joke.

Reviews of A Particular Cow were mixed.Kirkus Reviews compared it to Rosie's Walk, and although writing that "Denton captures the chaos in simple, bland cartoon illustrations, and Fox’s repeated use of "particular" gives the text a playful beat ..", criticised it for being too short and instead recommended Mr. Gumpy's Outing, and Great Gracie Chase: Stop That Dog!. Pogo (revived as Walt Kelly's Pogo) was a daily comic strip that was created by cartoonist Walt Kelly and syndicated to American newspapers from 1948 until 1975. Set in the Okefenokee Swamp in the Southeastern United States, Pogo followed the adventures of its anthropomorphic animal characters, including the title character, an opossum.
The cartoon has been described as "arguably the most loathed" Far Side strip, with Reddit posters calling it the series' "notoriously confusing cartoon". The strip was originally intended to be called Cow Tools, in homage to a notorious Far Side cartoon, but the authors were forced to change it after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from lawyers representing Larson. [2] The strip debuted with United Feature Syndicate in 55 newspapers on January 3, 2005.
