Westgate Mall location in 2024. Westgate Shopping Center (a.k.a. Westgate Mall) was the first fully enclosed shopping mall in Georgia. It opened in 1961, a year after Eastwood opened in Birmingham, Alabama. Like Eastwood, Westgate had no department store anchors but was prominently anchored by five and dime store JJ Newberry's.
The owners of Westgate announced in mid-2015 that the mall would receive $5 million in changes, including a new facade. [4] [13] In August 2015, Sky Zone Trampoline Park was announced as a future addition to the mall. [21] The Bon-Ton chain liquidated starting in April 2018, with Westgate's store closing during the summer.
