Camp James E. Rudder (Camp Rudder) is host to the third and final phase of a nine-week training course, dubbed the "swamp phase", of the U.S. Army Ranger School.The camp is located on the Eglin Air Force Base reservation, co-located with Eglin AFB Auxiliary Field #6 / Biancur Field, approximately fourteen miles northwest of the main Eglin AFB airfield.
It was used as part of the former Air Armament Center (AAC) until that organization was disestablished in October 2012 and merged with the 96th Air Base Wing into the current 96th Test Wing. The last active-duty USAF F-4D Phantom II , AF Ser. No. 68-8800 , has been sitting on ramp at Pierce Field since 1992.

Hurlburt began as a small training field for the much larger Eglin Field.It was initially designated Eglin Auxiliary Field No. 9, and later as Eglin Air Force Base Auxiliary Field 9/Hurlburt Field when the U.S. Air Force became an independent service, before being administratively separated from the rest of the Eglin AFB complex in the 1950s.
