Proviso West High School (PWHS) is a public high school located in Hillside, Illinois, United States. It is a part of Proviso Township High Schools District 209 , and was opened in 1958. Its sister schools are Proviso East High School and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy .

Covington attended Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois. As a senior in 2008–09, he averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks per game as he was named the West Suburban Conference Player of the Year after leading Proviso West to the West Suburban Championship. He was captain of the varsity basketball team and Senior Class President of Proviso West High School in its first graduating class in 1961. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois with a degree in economics and served as president of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
