The 2018 NCAA Division I women's volleyball rankings is a human poll designated to rank the top 25 women's college volleyball programs at the NCAA Division I level.The official rankings recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) are determined by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and have released rankings for this competition since 1982. The UCLA women's volleyball program began its first year in 1965. Andy Banachowski was the head coach each year since 1965 until his retirement after the 2009 season, with the exception of the two seasons of 1968–69 and 1969–70, after he graduated from UCLA. In those seasons, Mardi Hardy Monroe was the head coach.
There is also an NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship, which until 2012 was open to members of all three NCAA divisions,, as there are far fewer men's programs than women's. However, starting in the 2011–12 school year (2011 women's season, 2012 men's season), a Division III championship was established.
The 2004 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began on December 2, 2004, with 64 teams and ended December 18 when Stanford defeated Minnesota 3 games to 0 in Long Beach, California for the program's sixth NCAA title. [1] Stanford, who was the tournament's 11th overall seed, became the lowest seed to win the national title.
The 2017 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament began November 30, 2017 and concluded on December 16 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The tournament field was determined on November 26, 2017. Nebraska beat Florida in the final to claim their fifth national championship. [1]
