The United Nations (UN) Public Service Award is the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service. [citation needed] It rewards the creative achievements and contributions of public service institutions that lead to a more effective and responsive public administration in countries worldwide.
Since 1998, the awards are announced by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which was created a few days after the 1993 ceremony. [4] The physical token of the award is a metal plaque bearing the UN seal and an artistic design, and engraved with an appropriate citation.
