I've used Bullseye, AA#5, Power Pistol & Trail Boss with coated bullets from the Blue Bullets, Bayou and Acme - all with very good results. FWIW - I tend to load mild to medium loads. As others have said, always start with lead bullet load data.

Powder coated bullets have less friction than plated and in theory should create less wear, but that won't come into play less you shoot thousands and thousands of rounds per year. I have had a very small amount of leading in .30-06 when pushing bullets at 1,500 to 1,700 FPS but not in handguns if the coating is done correctly.

I loaded some 230 gr truncated cone coated bullets made by the J. Ames bullet company. These feature a super slippery proprietary polymer coating. They are .452 diameter, with no crimp groove. I crimped to .468. The problem is that the act of chambering a round causes the COAL to drop from 1.240 to 1.230.

I’ve run Hi Tek coated bullets at 1400 FPS in my open gun with no barrel leading. I did get some leading in the comp. In normal guns no problems. The guy who makes BnB bullets is in my shooting club so I have been able to try a lot of different weights and shapes. That Hi Tek coating has really changed the game.

I buy Badman coated bullets for my .45 Auto, .44 magnum and .357 for .38 spl. and .357 Magnum. I load the . 44 bullets mild to Magnum with no fouling , and they are accurate as hell. same with the .357 bullets. The .45 are loaded obviously much slower, and perform great.

With the Bayou bullets I had problems from the get go with scraping the Hi Tek coating and/or getting the loaded rounds to fit flush in a case gauge. I'm using a Dillon 550C and after much frustration learned that adjusting the flare at the powder die influenced both problems.

  8. Polymer Coated Bullets - Health Concern | 1911 Firearm Addicts

It didn't occur to me to think of micro plastics in coated bullets. It is hard to say whether micro plastics would be emitted as the bullet leaves the barrel, and what kind and size of particles would be involved. There are a couple of polymer types involved. For the most part, my experience with coated bullets has been poor, especially target ...

So far I'm really liking ASP as it seems to smoke less with coated bullets, since it was designed for that, and it's more cost effective than the others at my local vendor. Not sure what happened when I quoted you but re printed it so it wasn't included in you HP38 quote.

I use Gateway Bullets quite a bit, and really like them. I mainly use (200 gr. SWC) in my 45 ACP revolvers, but they feed fine in my 1911s too. I've found FMJ and Plated bullets to feed best of all. If your having trouble with plated bullets feeding, I wouldn't think coated bullets would help with feeding issues. JMO.
