In the 1990's North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset began to expand, first purchasing Glen Cove Hospital in 1990 which formed North Shore Health Systems Inc. Throughout the decade the health network began to purchase other surrounding hospitals and by 1997 had a total of 10 hospitals spanning from Staten Island to Suffolk County, New York.

North Shore University Hospital (formerly known as Manhasset Hospital) is a part of Northwell Health. It is one of two primary teaching hospitals for the Zucker School of Medicine (along with LIJ ), offering residency programs, postgraduate training programs and clinical fellowships .
The Zucker School of Medicine is the medical school of Hofstra University in the town of Hempstead on Long Island, in the U.S. state of New York.The academic institution was established in 2008 by Hofstra University and the North Shore-LIJ Hospital system which was rebranded as Northwell Health in 2015.
