NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, chartered as The New York and Presbyterian Hospital by the State of New York in 1996, was formed in 1998 with the merger of two large, previously independent hospitals, the New York Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital. The merger had been announced on January 1, 1998.
The system is run by New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Weill Cornell Medicine. Each hospital in the system is an affiliate of either of the two medical colleges.

Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is the academic medical center of Columbia University and the largest campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The center's academic wing consists of Columbia's colleges and schools of Physicians and Surgeons , Dental Medicine , Nursing , and Public Health .
The two-year Ithaca course paralleled the first two years of the New York school. The Ithaca location closed in 1938 due to declining enrollment. [11] The school became affiliated with New York Hospital, now NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital, in 1913. [1] The institutions opened a joint hospital-educational campus in Yorkville in 1932. [1]
