Why did we need another 6.5 cartridge? The PRC is roughly 200-300 fps faster than a Creedmoor, with the same bullets at the same pressures. The 6.5×284 is nearly the same case capacity, and set up correctly will do everything the PRC will do. There are two main issues with the 6.5×284. The first is the non-standardized chamberings.

The factory Hornady loads are so good in the PRC and premium Weatherby ammo is just too dang expensive. I love the .257 cartridge, but the PRC is a better choice for me. Reactions: 308WinGuy , ColtCyCc and Deleted member 16014

In the seven 7 PRC rifles Ive had built shooting factory ammunition in barrels 21"/22"/24", about 25 fps difference per inch, in the 6.5 PRC Ill bet it will be closer to 20 fps, I will have three 6.5 PRC rifles in the coming weeks, all with Benchmark barrels, I will try some handloads and see
Will be sharing my experience with my 6.5 PRC+P in a Fierce CT Edge 24” barrel with TiPro 3 brake. I’m planning on using ADG brass (3x fired) 215m Primers vvN565 156 EOLs 25 thou off until seating depth test time Today I started with a pressure test going from 55.7-61.7 in .5 increments. The...
I am a new member here and would be interested in borrowing or renting a JGS 6.5 PRC AW 2 reamer to open up my Savage Ultralight 6.5 prc or possibly have someone do the work for me. I am using ADG brass. I am on my third loading of them and I am getting cases stuck. The first time it happened was on my first elk hunt in CO.
My 6.5 PRC Hornady brass fired case volume is 68.8 grs H2O and my Lapua is 68.6 grs H2O. Not much difference here. But as you may know, different lots have different volumes. The only 6.5 PRC brass I've heard of that has substantially more case volume is some Norma brass that was reported to have 71.4 grs H2O.
Through my research, I’ve come across two calibers that intrigue me: the 6.5 PRC and 280AI. From what I can tell they are fairly similar ballistically. My main hang up on the PRC is bullet mass. Since I shoot lead free, the idea of using a 120 gr bullet on elk seems light to me. Could be totally off base, but that just seems light.
Spent months trying to decide if i wanted an 18" 6.5 PRC for mainly mule deer hunting with a 9" Banish30. Previously ran a 24" .30-06 and frankly hated the overall lenght. Went for it, bought a Bergara b14 hunter sp, chronograph, 13 different boxes of ammo (2 of which were match loads).
