Avoyelles (French: Paroisse des Avoyelles) is a parish located in central eastern Louisiana on the Red River where it effectively becomes the Atchafalaya River and meets the Mississippi River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 39,693. [1] The parish seat is Marksville. [2]

Simmesport is located in eastern Avoyelles Parish on the west bank of the Atchafalaya River. [6] According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.1 km 2), of which 2.2 square miles (5.7 km 2) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.5 km 2), or 7.93%, is water.
