On October 8, 1978 (three years and seven months after its opening), the Temple of Deliverance entered its new building. At a cost of $1.2 million, it was the first church built by African Americans in Memphis at a cost more than a million dollars. [1] By 1984, the 1,200-seat sanctuary could no longer accommodate the 11:00 am worshippers.
The church was dedicated on July 31, 1938. [3] The parish's second pastor, Msgr. Francis D. Grady, had the decorative design work completed on the church's interior. Msgr. Merlin F. Kearney had the high school buildings east of the church built in the 1950s and 1960s. Immaculate Conception High School for girls was also begun at this time.
The first service was held on July 12, 1903 with Bellevue's first pastor, Henry Hurt. Thirty-two founding members signed the official charter on August 9, 1903. The church completed a 3,000 seat building located at 70 N. Bellevue in 1952, which was one of the first air-conditioned churches in Memphis.

During the early 1970s, the church voted to allow an African American family to join, being the first Southern Baptist Church in Memphis to do so. During the 1980s, the church began ordaining women to the diaconate. During July 1994, Rev. Dr. Earl C. Davis led approximately half of the church membership to plant Trinity Baptist Church, in Cordova.
He took 10 churches with him and kept the Church of God in Christ name. Mason spent most of his years teaching in Arkansas.
