Great Wolf Lodge is a resort and outdoor waterpark of 30 acres (12 ha) located in Gurnee, Illinois near Six Flags Great America and Gurnee Mills. The resort is operated by Great Wolf Resorts. It had originally opened in 2008 as Key Lime Cove and was listed as the "Official Resort of Six Flags Great America". [3]
Great Wolf Lodge began as a small indoor water park resort called Black Wolf Lodge which was founded in 1997 by brothers Jack and Andrew "Turk" Waterman, the original owners of Noah's Ark Water Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. [4] Black Wolf Lodge was purchased by The Great Lakes Companies Inc. in 1999.
The new water park was expected to compete with others in Wisconsin Dells and the Chicago metropolitan area, [13] [14] and would be the biggest expansion in Six Flags Great America history. [15] Construction on the US$42 million [16] water park began in November of that year, and the water park opened to the public on May 28, 2005.
