The use of euphonium as a solo instrument with orchestral accompaniment still remains limited. The earliest known composition of this type is Alan Hovhaness' Concerto No. 3 ("Diran, the Religious Singer") from 1948. Subsequent pieces include Rule Beasley's Concerto (1967), Hovhaness' Symphony No. 29 (1976), and the David Gaines Concerto (1987).
Euphonium Concerto is a concerto written by Joseph Horovitz for euphonium and British-style brass band (or, alternatively, wind orchestra or chamber orchestra). Jordan was born into the family of Kaspar Joachim Jordan (1859–1924), an insurance agent, and Anne Marie Margrethe Kjærbye (1866–1935) from Denmark. He was initially married to actress Magda Blanc from 1918 to 1949, and later to actress Nina Sandvik Kristensen (29 March 1920 – 30 October 1996) starting in 1949.
