The boysenberry / ˈ b ɔɪ z ən b ɛr i / is a cross between the European raspberry (Rubus idaeus), European blackberry (Rubus fruticosus), American dewberry (Rubus aboriginum), and loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus).

[7] Since Logan's time, crosses between the cultivars of raspberry and blackberry have confirmed the loganberry's parentage, with an earlier theory that the loganberry originated as a red-fruiting form of the common Californian blackberry Rubus ursinus now disproved. James Harvey Logan (December 8, 1841 – July 16, 1928) [1] was a judge in Santa Cruz, California, and an amateur botanist credited with the 1881 creation of the loganberry, a cross between the raspberry and the blackberry. He was District Attorney in the 1870s and a Superior Court Judge during the 1880s and 1890s.
