Columbus City Schools, formerly known as Columbus Public Schools, is the official school district for the city of Columbus, Ohio, and serves most of the city (portions of the city are served by suburban school districts). The district has 46,686 students enrolled, making it the largest school district in the state of Ohio as of June 2021.
The district operates 14 elementary schools (K-5th Grades), two sixth grade schools, three middle schools (7-8th Grades), and three high schools (9-12th grades). Thus, the district is the eighth largest in Ohio.
Instead of having only one room reserved exclusively for teens at the North Columbus branch, the $2.5 million Flournoy Center will have 7,000 square feet of space dedicated to their fun and future.
The building was built for the West High School, and was converted to Starling Junior High School in 1929, when a new West High School was built.The school was eventually converted to become Starling Elementary School, and closed in 2012 when a new Starling Elementary School was constructed across the street, at 145 S. Central Avenue.
