The United States Sailing Association (US Sailing) is the national governing body for sailing in the United States. Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Bristol, Rhode Island , US Sailing is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization.

In 1950 he received support from the Portsmouth Harbour Racing & Sailing Association to produce the first edition of the Langstone tables for club use when they would be known as Portsmouth numbers. In 1960 he handed over the administration to the RYA and in 1976 a new YR2 format was used, with the Langstone tables being removed in 1986.
AYC has long had an active junior sailing program. In 1925, shortly after the founding of the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island (JSA) in 1924, the club developed a new class of boats specifically for junior sailors. This initiative under the leadership of then Commodore Philip Mallory, introduced a new type of boat called the Wee Scotts.
In 1910 there were 65 boats registered at the club of which 27 were sail boats. The largest of these was the sailing houseboat Savilla 86' with a 24' beam. HYC is a founding member of US Sailing, the "Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound" and the "Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound".
