The Metra Electric District is an electrified commuter rail line owned and operated by Metra which connects Millennium Station (formerly Randolph Street Station), in downtown Chicago, with the city's southern suburbs.
In 1965, when the University of Illinois' Chicago campus opened, the station's name was changed to "U of I-Halsted" and an additional entrance/exit to Peoria Street was added to access the campus. Most older signage on the station's platform and some older Chicagoans still refer the station and the campus as U of I-Halsted and U of I, respectively.
