Basketligan dam, formerly known as Damligan until 2011–12, is the top professional women's basketball league in Sweden. It began in the 2001–02 season, when it replaced the old Elitserien . The league currently has 14 teams.
At the EuroBasket Women 1987 Sweden finished in 7th place, a feat repeated in 2013. In 2019 Sweden reached the quarter-finals and was ranked 5th, a result that secured a spot in the 2020 Olympic qualifying tournament. Sweden will be the co-host of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket in 2027 alongside Belgium, Finlnd and Lithuania.
The 2020 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Women were the three women's basketball tournaments that were contested by 16 national teams, where the top teams earned a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics basketball tournament. It was held from 6 to 9 February 2020.

The tournaments are scheduled to be held in March 2026. The host, Germany, and the winners of the continental championships will participate in the tournament, although already qualified. The teams are split into four groups of six teams, with 16 teams qualifying for the final tournament.
