In 1947 these ladies appealed to the Commissioners' Court of Fort Bend County to establish a library which was granted and constructed by 1948. The original building held 1,000 books but was quickly deemed to be insufficient for growth and a new library underwent construction in November 1948.

M. R. Wood Alternative Education Center (MRW), also known as the M. R. Wood Center for Learning, was an alternative school in Sugar Land, Texas and a part of the Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD). It was in proximity to the Imperial Sugar plant. [1]
The main library was originally located in Rosenberg, near the Polly Ryon hospital. The library moved to Richmond in 1986. The library underwent extensive renovations in 2013 and reopened with new technology, media rooms, and room design.
