Ashhurst had a population of 2,934 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 285 people (10.8%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 501 people (20.6%) since the 2006 census. There were 1,074 households, comprising 1,428 males and 1,506 females, giving a sex ratio of 0.95 males per female.
On 21 October 1963, the new station and yards were opened, and all rail traffic removed from the main street and square of Palmerston North. The old line was closed by mid-1965, and the Awapuni railway station south of the main station on the old route was also closed. [9] The new route was 1 mi 4 ch (1.7 km) shorter than the old. [10]

Longburn railway station was a station in Longburn, on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. [2] [3] The platform, which is across from the Fonterra Factory, [4] remains but the structure has been demolished. There have been four station sites at Longburn. From 1873 it was on the Foxton-Palmerston North tramway.
Palmerston School is a contributing primary school catering for years 1 to 6 [7] with a roll of 108 students. Palmerston School was operating in 1866. [8] East Otago High School is a school for years 7 to 13 [9] with a roll of 171 students. It was preceded by Palmerston District High School in 1877, with a new building constructed in 1886. [10]
