The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay is a port of the Pacific coast of the United States, located in Coos Bay near the city of Coos Bay, Oregon. It is the largest deep-draft coastal harbor between San Francisco Bay and Puget Sound , and is Oregon's second busiest maritime commerce center after the Port of Portland .
In the early 20th century, Tenmile Lake was a cold-water fishery that supported large populations of coastal cutthroat trout, salmon, and the sea-run steelhead. [1] However, the watershed was gradually altered by logging, farming, stream channeling, and the introduction of invasive fish species such as yellow perch and brown bullhead . [ 1 ]
Coos Bay is Oregon's largest bay, and the lower part of the bay offers many shellfishing opportunities such as crabbing and clamming. [36] The lower bay is the area that extends from the airport to the ocean entrance, and is marine dominated (meaning there is little freshwater influence).
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is located on the Oregon Coast, stretching approximately 40 miles (64 km) north of the Coos River in North Bend to the Siuslaw River in Florence, and adjoining Honeyman State Park on the west.
