Curtis High School, operated by the New York City Department of Education, is one of seven public high schools located in Staten Island, New York City, New York. It was founded on February 9, 1904, the first high school on Staten Island .
The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) is an organization that regulates high school sports in South Carolina. Each year since 1916, the SCHSL has crowned a state champion in football. Every fall, a postseason consisting of a 32 school bracket is played to determine a winner. The divisions for football are based on school enrollment.

The first annual Calcasieu–Louisiana Fair [28] scheduled a high school football game between the hometown Lake Charles High team and Boys High, billing it as being for the state championship. The game was a very successful draw, as 3,000 of the fair's 10,000 attendees watched LCHS' 17–11 victory.

The school's namesake comes from the former UPSD Superintendent George R. Curtis. The school opened in 1957 as a joint junior-senior high school at the corner of 40th and Grandview. In 1962, a high school facility was built about 500 yards east of the junior high that then extended up 40th Street.
