Buena Vista Colored School is a historic school building for African American children located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1914, and expanded in 1926. It is a one-story, brick structure with a hipped, sheet metal roof. Also on the property is a contributing brick outbuilding once used to store wood and coal.
Parry McCluer High School (PMHS) is a high school located in Buena Vista, Virginia, United States. The school has an enrollment of approximately 336 students. Its current principal is Dr. Todd Jones, and its current assistant principal is Troy Clark. The school band is the Marching Blues.

Southern Seminary Main Building, originally known as the Hotel Buena Vista and now Main Hall of Southern Virginia University, is a historic hotel building located at Buena Vista, Virginia. It was built in 1890, and is a 3 1/2-story, brick and frame building in an eclectic combination of Queen Anne and French Renaissance style architecture.
In 2022, the college was renamed from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College to Mountain Gateway Community College after a review of names prompted by the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges. The review found that school namesake Dabney S. Lancaster supported segregation and had ties to a white supremacist group. [6] [7]
