Fairfield is a city and county seat of Freestone County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,850 at the 2020 census, [ 4 ] down from 3,094 at the 2000 census. [ 5 ] It was founded in 1851.
Freestone was originally called Bond's Prairie, and under the latter name had its start in 1905 when the railroad was extended to that point. [2] A post office called Freestone was established in 1906, and remained in operation until 1975.
