Fang: A Maximum Ride Novel is the sixth book in the Maximum Ride series written by James Patterson.It was released on February 5, 2010 in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and was released in the US on March 15, 2010.
Hawk, born Phoenix, is the daughter of Max and Fang born during the events of Maximum Ride Forever. Like her parents, she is a human-avian hybrid with wings. She is only briefly spoken of in Maximum Ride Forever as she begins her first flying lessons with her family. As a child, she is separated from her parents and lost in the City of the Dead.
Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel are human-avian hybrids living in hiding. When Angel is abducted, the rest of the Flock searches for her while fighting a number of obstacles including physical ailments, natural disaster, the wolf-human Erasers, and the evil scientists at the experimental lab called "The School".
Max and Fang stop to eat on a rooftop in Utah, where Max hears a girl being attacked. Fang tells Max not to intervene, but Max flies down to help before being shot in the shoulder. Fang smashes the gunman through a window; the girl, Ella, tells him that her mother is a doctor. They rush Max to the veterinary practice where Max is operated on.
Max brings Ari with them, angering Fang. The Flock spends the night in a cabin, where Max and Fang fight over Ari's presence. Unable to agree, they split the Flock. Max, Nudge, Angel and Ari go to Europe to strike at the roots of Itex. Fang, Iggy, and Gazzy go to California in search of help, with Fang using his blog to rally supporters.
In California, Fang's gang struggles, but Fang grows romantically closer to Maya. Fang discovers that the Doomsday Group will be at a convention in San Diego, and calls Max and the Flock for help. The Flock and Fang's gang immediately clash, with Max and Fang especially jealous of each other's new relationships.
