The University of Allahabad is a Central University located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. It was established on 23 September 1887 by an act of Parliament and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance (INI). It is the 4th oldest modern University in India. [4]
In 2018, following the renaming of Allahabad to Prayagraj, proposals were made to rename the university as well. [5] In 2019 the university was renamed after Rajendra Singh through an ordinance, [ 6 ] which was later that year replaced by the Uttar Pradesh State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019 .

Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute, is a government-aided university in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. [ 7 ] [ 2 ] It operates as an autonomous Christian minority institution under the 'Sam Higginbottom Educational and Charitable Society, Allahabad'.
Soon after, in 1857, the first three official universities were started in Bombay (Mumbai), Calcutta (Kolkata) and Madras (Chennai). Followed by the University of Punjab in 1882 and the University of Allahabad in 1887. These universities were modeled after the University of London and focused on English and the humanities [15]
Its diplomas and degrees are recognized by a number of UGC accredited institutions and notable universities in music such as Banaras Hindu University, [2] Central Board of Secondary Education [3] among others. The university itself is recognized by NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council) with a grade A++ rating and a CGPA of 3.65. [4]
