In 1991 Plano ISD began a Chinese bilingual program for preschool and kindergarten students developed by Donna Lam. It is one of two Chinese bilingual programs in the State of Texas, along with the one established by the Austin Independent School District. For 46 years Vines High School's mascot was "The Viking" and its school colors were purple and white. The school's drill team performed as "The Vikettes". R. C. Clark High School is a co-educational secondary school in Plano, Texas serving grades nine and ten. Founded in 1979, the school is part of the Plano Independent School District. Hendrick Middle School, Carpenter Middle School, and Schimelpfenig Middle School feed into Clark. Students leaving Clark go on to attend Plano Senior High School.
The current principal of Shepton High School is Courtney Washington, who was appointed in 2023. Shepton High School opened in 1984 at its current location. To accommodate the growth in the city, it moved to a larger facility from 1990-1998, located on Parker Road (and the current location of Plano West Senior High School ).
