"Everything Zen" is a single by British rock band Bush. Released on 28 January 1995, it was the band's first single released under the name "Bush", [ 3 ] and their second overall. The single comes from their 1994 debut album, Sixteen Stone .
The music of Sixteen Stone has been characterized variously as grunge, [2] [3] hard rock [9] and post-grunge, [20] and has been compared with the music of 1990s Seattle-based bands including Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden; [3] [21] the song "Bomb" in particular invited a description of "Nirvana-approximating" from Stereogum. [21]
"Machinehead" reached No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 4 May 1996. It reached No. 4 on both the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. The song was nominated for Best Video from a Film at the 1996 MTV Music Video Awards but lost; however, it did win the MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie at the 1996 MTV Movie Awards.
The video was directed by Matt Mahurin who also directed their previous video for "Everything Zen" The video cuts between images of a grinning woman wearing black face paint, an albino snake, a fire-eating woman, a man's reflection in a river, and a man kissing a classical or neo-classical statute and then dragging it around with him.
