The Third Book of Enoch (Hebrew: ספר חנוך לר׳ ישמעאל כ׳׳ג), also known as The Book of the Palaces, The Book of Rabbi Ishmael the High Priest and The Elevation of Metatron, and abbreviated as 3 Enoch) [1] is a Jewish apocryphal book.
The Hebrew Bible is also known as the Tanakh, an acronym from the initial Hebrew letters of these three words; and as the Mikra, meaning "that which is read". Judaism has traditionally held that, along with the Torah, referred to as the Written Torah , God revealed a series of instructions on how to interpret and apply the Torah.
Based on the number of copies found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Book of Enoch was widely read during the Second Temple period.Today, the Ethiopic Beta Israel community of Haymanot Jews is the only Jewish group that accepts the Book of Enoch as canonical and still preserves it in its liturgical language of Geʽez, where it plays a central role in worship. The Book of Enoch was excluded from both the Hebrew Tanakh and the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, the Septuagint.
The narrator of this book, supposedly Rabbi Ishmael, tells how Metatron guided him through Heaven and explained its wonders. 3 Enoch presents Metatron in two ways: as a primordial angel (9:2–13:2) and as the transformation of Enoch after he was assumed into Heaven. [49] [50] And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Notable pseudepigraphal works include the Books of Enoch such as 1 Enoch, 2 Enoch, which survives only in Old Slavonic, and 3 Enoch, surviving in Hebrew of the c. fifth century – c. sixth century CE. These are ancient Jewish religious works, traditionally ascribed to the prophet Enoch, the great-grandfather of the patriarch Noah.
Spelling the letters in יהוה (YHWH) by itself gives יוד הא ואו הא. Each letter in Hebrew is given a value, according to gematria, and the value of יוד הא ואו הא is also 45. [citation needed] The 72-fold name is derived from three verses in Exodus 14:19–21. Each of the verses contains 72 letters.
Seraphiel (Hebrew: שׂרפיאל, meaning "Seraph of God/El") is the name of an angel in the apocryphal Book of Enoch.. Protector of Metatron, Seraphiel holds the highest rank of the Seraphim with the following directly below him, Jehoel.
