Massey Ferguson is an agricultural machinery manufacturer, established in 1953 through the merger of farm equipment makers Massey-Harris of Canada and the Ferguson Company of the United Kingdom. It was based in Coventry then moved to Beauvais in 2003 when the Coventry factory was shut down.
The first goal was to manufacture 10,000 units tractors of 45-65 horsepower engines with single and double differential gearboxes. In 1976 Massey Ferguson started to assemble tractors in the company with an output of 13,000 units for each year; production capacity was subsequently increased to 30,000. [1]
Ferguson built a plant in Detroit where the TO20, TO30, and F40 were assembled. He named it Ferguson Park, perhaps because the 8Ns were then being assembled at Highland Park. Massey Ferguson stopped production at this plant in 1984. Part of the plant is currently in use by an auto parts manufacturer.
In 1990, Massey Ferguson took over Dorman Diesels of Stafford merging it with Perkins to form Perkins Engines (Stafford) Ltd. In 1984, Perkins acquired Rolls-Royce Diesels of Shrewsbury , continuing to supply British Rail with engines for its diesel multiple units until the site closed in 2002. [ 5 ]
