If less than 9 bands advance to area, one round of competition is held, with either the top 2 bands (in 5A and 6A) or the top 3 bands (in 4A and lower) advancing to state. If more than 9 bands are to participate at area, a preliminary and final round are conducted, with the number of bands advancing to finals determined by contest size.
Competition continues Monday at the Alamodome, with the state's finest marching bands in Class 6A, 4A and 2A competing to be named Texas' best.
State championship tournaments are grouped into up to eight groups based on enrollment with each tournament naming its own champion. These are: A, B, C, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A. Each sport and activity has slightly different classifications. In 2014, the OSSAA split 6A into two classes for football, 6A-1 and 6A-2. [7]

US Bands is based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the event is managed by BD Performing Arts.
