This tubular fireplace grate heater has a large surface area heat exchanger in a compact design, with a fan or blower (fans and blowers are not the same) to multiply the effect of natural convection. This is a very basic tubular blower that sits under a grate and heats the air being pumped through it from the heat of the coals.
A grate (or fire grate) is a frame, usually of iron bars, to retain fuel for a fire. Heavy metal firebacks are sometimes used to capture and re-radiate heat, to protect the back of the fireplace, and as decoration. Fenders are low metal frames set in front of the fireplace to contain embers, soot and ash.
Lennox Hearth Products, which was established in 1994 by Lennox International, acquired Whitfield Hearth Products, Superior Fireplace Company and Marco Manufacturing in 1998; Earth Stove and Security Chimneys in 1999; then Country Stoves in 2006.
This stove was little more than a cast-iron box with no grates. [8] Benjamin Franklin designed the "Pennsylvania fireplace", now known as the Franklin stove in 1742, which incorporated the fundamental concepts of the heating stove. The Franklin stove used a grate to burn wood and had sliding doors to control the draught, or flow of air, through it.
The 1678 fireplace of Prince Rupert (1619–1682) also included an inverted siphon. Rupert placed a hanging iron door between the fire grate and the chimney. In order to exit through the chimney, the fire's fumes and smoke first had to descend below the edge of the door before rising through the chimney. [10]
