All Silverado and Sierra 1500 models received a revised bumper and shortened front fascia for the 2009 model year, and extended and crew cab models equipped with the Vortec 5300 V8 received a new six-speed 6L80 automatic transmission. The Vortec 6200 V8 was made available for Silverado LT/LTZ and Sierra SLE/SLT models.
The 4.8 L and 5.3 L versions used iron blocks and aluminum heads, while the 1999–2000 6.0 L version used cast iron cylinder heads. The 6.6 L Duramax turbo-diesel was introduced with the 2500HD and 3500 models that debuted for 2001. An aluminum-block 5.3 L version was also used in 2005–2007 1500-series 4WD extended-cab 6.5' box trucks.

Production of the truck-spec L76 started in late 2006, and it was only available with the new body style Silverado and Sierra, as well as the then-new Suburban. The final year for the truck-spec L76 was 2009 for all three applications; it was replaced by the 6.2L L9H engine for MY 2010 in the pickup trucks.
