Lincoln Township covers an area of 23.91 square miles (61.9 km 2); of this, 0.09 square miles (0.23 km 2) or 0.39 percent is water. The streams of Bullard Creek, Hughes Branch and West Fork White Lick Creek run through this township.
The district encompasses 42 contributing buildings in the town of Brownsburg. Established in 1783 on the lands of Robert Wardlaw and Samuel McChesney, the town became a major hub of activity by 1835, before losing commercial importance around the turn of the century, due to the arrival of a nearby rail line.
A post office was established in 1836 under the name of Harrisburg but was later changed to Brownsburg, [6] since the name Harrisburg was being used by a post office in another Indiana county. From 1840 to 1870, Brownsburg tripled in size, increased from six to sixteen acres, and added its first church. The town's first election was held in 1848.
Brownsburg is an unincorporated community in Rockbridge County, Virginia, United States. [ 2 ] The Brownsburg Historic District , Hays Creek Mill , Kennedy-Wade Mill , Level Loop , Mulberry Grove , and New Providence Presbyterian Church are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
According to the 2010 census, Brownstown has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.14 km 2), of which 1.59 square miles (4.12 km 2) (or 99.38%) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km 2) (or 0.63%) is water. [8] Brownstown lies on the East Fork of the White River, bordered by the Jackson-Washington State Forest and near the Hoosier National Forest.
