Open Window is an accredited private higher education provider. It was established in 1993 as an art school. It has since expanded into an institute offering three accredited bachelor's degrees and postgraduate degrees. FOTIM consists of nine universities and universities of technology in the Gauteng, Limpopo Province and North West Province. FOTIM was created during 1995. The purpose of its creation is for regional collaboration between universities and universities of technology in the northern region of South Africa.
Previously known as Higher Education South Africa (HESA), formed on 9 May 2005 as a successor to the two statutory representative organisations for universities and technikons, the South African Universities Vice-Chancellors Association (SAUVCA) and the Committee of Technikon Principals (CTP).
The university occupies nine campuses: Pretoria main campus, arcadia campus, arts campus, Soshanguve south and Soshanguve north campus, Ga-Rankuwa campus, Witbank (eMalahleni campus), Mbombela and Polokwane. Two faculties, namely the Faculties of Science and The Arts, have dedicated campuses in the Pretoria city centre. [5]

[116] In August 2021, the Webometrics World Ranking of Institutional Repositories, UPSpace is ranked 130th Internationally, 2nd in Africa and 1st in South Africa. [117]
