However, on 1 May 1996 HNDE was connected with the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education, which was mainly under the ministry of education & higher education. On 12 December 1996 the institute celebrated its 10th anniversary. [citation needed] In July 2004, a newly built 4-story building was opened to the public.
