Gopi (गोपी) is a Sanskrit word originating from the word Gopa. In Hinduism , the name Gopika or Gopi is especially used to refer the milkmaids of Braj region. [ 9 ] The word Gopis in the plural refers to the group of cowherd women who possess devotion toward Krishna.
Government Islamia College Civil Lines (Urdu: اسلامیہ کالج), formerly called Dayanand Anglo Vedic College, is a government college in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded by Arya Samaj as the school of Dayanand Anglo Vedic on 1 June 1886, [ 1 ] It was later renamed Dayanand Anglo Vedic (DAV) College after Hindu leader Dayananda Saraswati .
In 1864, Government College was established by the British government in India. [3] [4] After being elevated to university status in 2002, it has become one the ten largest educational institutions in Pakistan, [citation needed] with a student body of over 12,000.

In 1958, the school was renamed the National College of Arts and Mian Barkat Ali was appointed as principal. [8] Designated the premier art institution in the country, it was transferred to the Ministry of Education from the Ministry Industries in the 1960s. It received degree-awarding status in 1985 and created its first graduate programs in 1999.
The college was founded in accordance with the will Dyal Singh, in Lahore to implant Brahmo ideas.During Socio-Cultural reform movement in Indian subcontinent , in 1910 , Dayal singh was influenced by rational , scientific ideas of Brahmo samaj (started by Raja Rammohan Roy) .

In 2002, the Government of Punjab established a center of excellence in mathematical sciences, the School of Mathematical Sciences, affiliated with Government College University Lahore. [2] The idea behind the school is to create a world-class doctoral research institute in mathematics, but rooted in a developing country like Pakistan.
