International Jascha Heifetz Competition is a competition for violinists of all nationalities, which is held in Lithuania. The first International Jascha Heifetz Competition for Violinists was held in 2001, [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of violinist Jascha Heifetz .
Friedman started playing the violin at age 6. He attended Juilliard at age 10, and was the only violinist to be a private student of both Nathan Milstein and Jascha Heifetz. He began studies with Heifetz at age 17 at the University of Southern California and recorded the Bach Double Concerto with him in 1961. [1]
Heifetz was born into a Lithuanian-Jewish family in Vilnius (which was then part of the Russian Empire, and is currently the capital of Lithuania). [8]His father, Reuven Heifetz, was a local violin teacher and served as the concertmaster of the Vilnius Theatre Orchestra for one season before the theatre closed down.
