This category contains typefaces in the old style serif classification, including both Venetian and Garalde varieties. These faces date back to 1465 and are reminiscent of the humanist calligraphy. Lucida (pronunciation: / ˈ l uː s ɪ d ə / [2]) is an extended family of related typefaces designed by Charles Bigelow and Kris Holmes and released from 1984 onwards. [3] [4] The family is intended to be extremely legible when printed at small size or displayed on a low-resolution display – hence the name, from 'lucid' (clear or easy to understand).

Blackletter is sometimes referred to as Old English, but it is not to be confused with the Old English language, which predates blackletter by many centuries and was written in the insular script or in Futhorc. Along with Italic type and Roman type, blackletter served as one of the major typefaces in the history of Western typography.
Iowan Old Style is a digital serif typeface designed by John Downer and released by Bitstream in 1991. [ 1 ] Iowan Old Style is inspired by serif typefaces from Renaissance Italy , now called the “ old-style ” or Venetian model of typeface design, with influence from Downer’s work as hand-painter of signs.
