Tobias Jens Forge (Swedish pronunciation: [tʊˈbǐːas ˈjɛns ˈfɔ̌rːɡɛ]; [1] born March 3, 1981) is a Swedish musician. He is the frontman, leader, primary songwriter, and sole continuous member of the masked rock band Ghost, performing live as their vocalist under the stage names Papa Emeritus and Cardinal Copia.
In Rite Here Rite Now, Papa Emeritus IV repeatedly ventures backstage during the concert to visit his associate Sister Imperator, and to converse with the spirit of Papa Nihil, who is depicted as having served as Ghost's frontman in the 1960s. Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil are revealed to be the parents of Papa Emeritus IV. [8]
In March 2020, during their final show supporting their 2018 album Prequelle in Mexico City, Cardinal Copia, the singer of the band, was transformed into Papa Emeritus IV. He would remain the frontman for their fifth album. [5]
A second show at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles was announced following a video, giving fans speculation that the Papa Emeritus IV character would be "killed off" at the end of the tour. [24] [25] A South American leg was later announced, acknowledging it as their first time headlining in Brazil and Argentina. [26]
Originally introduced as Papa Emeritus Zero, Nihil is the ancestor of all previous Papa Emeritus characters, and after the "deaths" of his descendants, was the only surviving member of the Papa Emeritus lineage that we know of. [65] During the final show of the tour in support of Prequelle, Cardinal Copia was "elevated" to become Papa Emeritus IV.
At A Final Gig Named Death, Copia was promoted to "Papa Emeritus IV". [4] [5] As with previous tours, every concert on the tour saw Forge backed by a band of masked musicians known as "Nameless Ghouls". [1] A Pale Tour Named Death encompassed a number of legs, with concerts in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan.
As the video progresses, the party grows more and more eventful while everyone is dancing. Meanwhile, one of the earlier men is seen dancing with a woman, who then bestows upon him the signature facepaint of Papa Emeritus. She then punches him in the left eye, giving him the iconic white eye as seen in the band's numerous vocalists.
