All-wheel drive became available for the wagon body style in the 320i, 328i and 335i models. 2014 328d is the first four-cylinder diesel BMW to be sold in the United States. [ 57 ]
In the United States and Canada, the only estate model available prior to 2007 was the 325xi, [24] and then the 328i and 328xi from 2007 onwards. The Australian market received only a handful of models which included the 320i, 320d and 323i until the end of its production. No X-Drive models were ever sold in Australia of the E9x series. [25]
The E30 was the first 3 Series to be available in wagon and 4-door sedan body styles. It was also the first 3 Series to offer a diesel engine, and all-wheel drive was introduced to the 3 Series range with the 325iX model. The BMW Z1 roadster was based on the E30 platform. BMW xDrive is the marketing name for the all-wheel drive system found on various BMW models since 2003. [1] The system uses an electronically actuated clutch-pack differential to vary the torque between the front and rear axles. Models with the DPC torque vectoring system also have a planetary gearset to overdrive an axle or rear wheel as required.
In tune with BMW's core values regarding handling dynamics, [33] the E46 was initially available with a rear-wheel drive layout and a 50/50 weight distribution. With the new 3.2 models, Alpinas were now based on the 328i and its 2.8L engine, rather than 325i models. [27] Alpina B3 3.2. In 1995, the B8 was released. The B8 4.6 was based on the 4 litre V8 from the E34 5-series, put into a 328i-based shell. BMW V8s had coated bores which meant new blocks had to be cast by BMW specifically for Alpina V8s.
