The Village of Sebewaing DDA was established in 2013 with baseline property tax value. Starting in 2022 the county portion of property taxes, above the 2013 starting point, was given to the DDA by Huron County.
The Village of Sebewaing, pronounced See-ba-wing, was founded in 1845 by Rev. John J.F. Auch, a Lutheran Minister ordained by the Michigan Synod of the Lutheran Church from Ann Arbor. He was sent by the Church to spread the Gospel among the Native Americans.

Playground equipment is located in various parks around the Village of Sebewaing for the convenience of those communities. Some of the locations could benefit from additional equipment. The wooden features have begun to deteriorate.

Sebewaing is well known for its great walleye fishing, duck & pheasant hunting. Waterfowl Season is from October 1 – December 1. Pheasants by the thousands were what brought fame to the area in the 1940s to mid-1960s.
A new Sebewaing Area Historical Society was formed July 29, 2005. The first official meeting was August 11, 2005 and all donated items were claimed. The new group immediately began to do major cleaning of the building, upstairs and down.
